You DON'T need FUR

Imagine yourself being kept in a tiny cage with many others, with barely enough room for everyone to lie down or sit properly.

Then, one day, one by one, the others kept in the cage with you are being led away, one by one.

You can hear them cry, scream, and moan in agony. You can see them being bound and tortured, and ultimately, skinned, alive.

You know it's going to be your turn, soon.

Well, imagine no more, because this is what people in many places all over the world are treating the animals. They are being skinned alive, all because of the vanity of human beings.

Cats, dogs, minks, racoons, etc. They are all suffering this cruel fate, all because some folks think they need to wear such things.

You may think your part is too small to matter, but, believe me, every little effort from every single person counts. Educate our future generation, show them the website, explain the pain and suffering men put them through, guide them. Make a start, now.

  NIKITA

Nikita was found chained to the wall in a crack house during a drug bust in Tennessee. Because she had been confined to a concrete floor, she had huge swellings on her elbows that took months to heal.  She was so thin you could carry her under one arm and she would only eat white rabbits, so she had a plethora of nutritional issues to deal with as well.  The authorities took her to the Nashville Zoo at Grasmere, but she had been declawed and could not live with the zoo's other lions, so they had to find a new home for her. Big Cat Rescue agreed to take her as well as three Bobcats who needed a home. Nikita had never seen other lions before she moved to Easy Street, but she has grown to love her new neighbors. Lions are social animals so we are gradually trying to introduce Nikita to Sarabi in hopes that one day they can be together. This photo was taken at the zoo before her arrival at Big Cat Rescue where she now has a 1/4 acre Cat-A-Tat full of trees and grass.

Old news, but the sad reality remains

See how animals were subjected to the cruelty of mankind, all in the selfish name of progress and betterment of the human race. But, as a result, what sort of a human have we become?

A picture from the Silver Spring monkeys case, PETA's first investigation. The monkeys were placed in such restraining devices and their reactions to noxious stimuli (flames from cigarette lighters, surgical pliers that pinched their skin, etc.) were monitored. PETA first uncovered the abuse of animals in experiments in 1981, launching the precedent-setting monkeys case. This resulted in the first arrest and conviction of an animal experimenter in the United States on charges of cruelty to animals, the first confiscation of abused laboratory animals, and the first U.S. Supreme Court victory for animals in laboratories.
We abuse them for food, pleasure, experiments, and sometimes even out of curiousity. But little that we know that, for all the abuse we have inflicted upon them, it is now coming back at us full circle in the form of super-germs and mutated virii-strains that cannot be killed by any known drugs*. Namely, E-coli, the bird-flu, madcow disease, and the HFM - hand-foot-mouth disease.

  FAQ's
                      about Animal Cruelty

What is animal cruelty?

Animal cruelty encompasses a range of behaviors harmful to animals, from neglect to malicious killing. Most cruelty investigated by humane officers is unintentional neglect that can be resolved through education. Intentional cruelty, or abuse, is knowingly depriving an animal of food, water, shelter, socialization, or veterinary care or maliciously torturing, maiming, mutilating, or killing an animal.

Why is it a concern?

All animal cruelty is a concern because it is wrong to inflict suffering on any living creature. Intentional cruelty is a particular concern because it is a sign of psychological distress and often indicates that an individual either has already experienced violence or may be predisposed to committing acts of violence.

Is there any evidence of a connection between animal cruelty and human violence?

Absolutely. Many studies in psychology, sociology, and criminology during the last 25 years have demonstrated that violent offenders frequently have childhood and adolescent histories of serious and repeated animal cruelty. The FBI has recognized the connection since the 1970s, when its analysis of the lives of serial killers suggested that most had killed or tortured animals as children. Other research has shown consistent patterns of animal cruelty among perpetrators of more common forms of violence, including child abuse, spouse abuse, and elder abuse. In fact, the American Psychiatric Association considers animal cruelty one of the diagnostic criteria of conduct disorder.

Why would anyone be cruel to animals?

There can be many reasons. Animal cruelty, like any other form of violence, is often committed by a person who feels powerless, unnoticed, and under the control of others. The motive may be to shock, threaten, intimidate, or offend others or to demonstrate rejection of society's rules. Some who are cruel to animals copy things they have seen or that have been done to them. Others see harming an animal as a safe way to get revenge on someone who cares about that animal.

What happens when authorities prosecute an animal cruelty case?

Depending on the severity of the case, individuals found guilty may be imprisoned. Appropriate sentencing can also include individual or family counseling, community service, or diversion programs. It is rarely the goal of the authorities to imprison a child for cruelty to animals. Law enforcement officers and judges recognize that cruelty to animals is one part of a complex problem. Sometimes the official response to animal cruelty provides a family its first opportunity to get help.

Can reports be made anonymously?

While many jurisdictions will respond to an anonymous complaint, successful prosecutions often depend on an identifiable witness who can authenticate evidence.

Will I be required to testify?

If a case goes to trial and you have identified yourself as the complainant in either a written or an oral report, you may be called to testify.
